David
Duval can’t help it. He stands out. Wraparound sunglasses.
A bouncy, blond wedge cut. Shirts with the top button fastened. |
| But
what really sets Duval apart is summed up in his nickname, Rock.
From the short, powerful legs on his six-foot, 200-pound-plus
frame to the contact he makes with a long iron to his granite
resolve while contemplating his next shot, everything about
the way the 30 year old Duval plays golf suggests the solidity
of a boulder. |

12th
Hole, Augusta National Augusta, Ga.
More green jackets have been lost at the 12th than at the Augusta
City Dry Cleaners. |
|
When the Masters comes to shove on you can bet somebody is going
to walk away from 12 looking as though he had just heard from
the irs. Or 60 minutes. Tom Weiskopf made a 13 there once. He
bounced back the next day with a 7. That was the last time anybody
saw him with hair. |

Jan Stephenson |
 |
In
1976 Jan Stephenson shot a 2 over par 218 and won her first
lpga tour title at the Sarah Coventry Classic in Naples, Fla. |
| One
thing you can find among the lady pros that you surely can’t
find among the men is Jan Stephenson. She is the little Australian
dumpling who whent around looking more like a starlet than
a professional athlete. Stephenson is probably not going to
rewrite any LPGA recors, but she has won a tournament and
she will win more.
